Subscriptions, 4G and the cost over five years

The price tag is only part of the cost. We work out a 5-year cost for every model in two ways:

• Core cost: what it costs to keep the mower mowing your lawn, assuming any optional plan lapses.
• With remote and anti-theft: the core cost plus the plan that keeps app control from anywhere and GPS tracking.

We count subscriptions twice in the score, on purpose. They raise the 5-year cost, and a mower that needs one to keep mowing also scores lower on "works without Wi-Fi". Having to pay every year just to keep a mower working is the cost we'd most want to avoid.
