Robot mowers are mostly reliable if you buy from a UK seller with a UK warranty and look after the parts that wear. The risk is less about the motor and more about software, signal and the newness of many models: 44 of the 80 mowers we track went on sale in 2025 or later, so there is not yet much long-term owner experience to go on.

What tends to go wrong
- App, mapping and updates. The problems independent reviewers raise most often: the app dropping its connection, a first update taking hours on weak internet, and automatic mapping that fails or misses parts of the lawn. These are usually fixed by an update or by re-mapping, not a repair.
- Losing its position. Satellite () mowers can stop or wander under trees or near tall buildings; camera mowers can struggle in poor light. See navigation explained.
- Getting stuck. Wet dips, tree roots, fallen fruit and garden toys can all leave a mower stuck until you free it.
- A broken . Wire mowers stop if the wire is cut, often by a spade or scarifier. Repair kits are cheap, but finding the break takes time.
- Wear parts. Blades wear in weeks, wheels and their tread over seasons. These are running costs, not faults: we include blades in every .
- The battery. Lithium-ion batteries lose capacity over time. eufy suggests 3 to 5 years for the battery; each mower page shows a replacement as a possible later cost.
How to protect yourself
- Buy the UK version from a UK seller. Some listings are EU imports with a plug adapter, which may not carry a UK warranty.
- Check the battery warranty, not just the mower's. They are often different. Compare them in our warranty guide.
- Ask who repairs it. Some brands have UK dealers who collect or repair locally; others need the mower sent back. Each mower page says what we know.
- Register the warranty and keep the receipt. Some makers add a year if you register.
- Look after it over winter. Store it clean, dry and charged. Our maintenance guide explains how.
- Prefer a model that has been on sale for a season or two if reliability matters more to you than the newest features.
Your rights if it goes wrong
Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, goods must be of satisfactory quality and last a reasonable time, whatever the warranty says. You can reject a faulty item for a full refund within 30 days. In the first six months a fault is presumed to have been there from the start, unless the retailer proves otherwise. Your claim is against the retailer, not the maker.
What owners say
The best evidence of reliability is owners' experience over several seasons. Every mower page has owner reports, published whether they are good or bad. If you own one, please add yours.
